Default Prediction

This spring, Ranger will break into the 10s, bone stock. I said this over one year ago, and believe he can master the launch and break into the 10 second bracket.

The big problem is that roll cages are required below 11 something. Maybe Ranger can address this issue.

On the boards I follow, bone stock, so far...

my 11.34 is the fastest for stock tires and my 11.20 is fastest for DRs.

Suspect by Fall 2006, the stock tire record will be in the low 11.2s and the DR record will be in the 10.8s. Don't know who the holder will be. Suspect more than a few owners running DRs will break rear ends. And, of course, most owners who pursue fast times won't keep their cars stock. So the field of bone-stock "class" racers isn't large.

It will take 30-50 passes to get the rhythm of the LS7 embedded. Perhaps the biggest challenge is making more than a couple passes in without being told to park it for lack of the sub-11.50 rollcage. So I suspect track rentals will become the venue of choice for running fast times.

Yes it does mean, showroom stock. Ranger is very religious about this, even keeping the stock shifter on his previous Z06s (C5).

His all time record for bone stock 02 Z06 was 11.81 with stock tires.

11.54 with the Halltech TRIC and Drag Radials.

On one of Rangers post on another forum he said he had 500 1/4 mile runs on 2 different C5's with no rear end breakage. I guess since his cars are bone stock with no edit, that torque management can be your friend!

It's looking like TM has nothing to do with the breakage. The rear ends are hitting the frame under strong 1st to 2nd gear shifts, causing the housing to fracture.

Every car that has broken so far has had stock programming with TM fully active.

I have had TM disabled for 6,000 miles and plenty of full power shifting without a problem. So have the other 7 Z06s we've tuned.

That's not to say it can't happen. I think under the right circustances these cars are all going to end up breaking the rear end housings, until a fix is forthcoming.

I will not drag race until we figure it out.

I thought the rear ends where bolted directly to the frame cross member? Diff, tranny, torque tube, bell housing, engine all in one solid straight line. Axle shafts only thing moving around.
